The ACCA Qualification has enabled me to work with a variety of companies in many countries. Being an accountant was not initially a goal of mine; as a little girl, I was set on being a princess who travelled the world. However, after toying with the idea of becoming a piano virtuoso, I applied myself to studying international business. I love my job and I’ve never missed not being a princess!

I’ve worked both in practice and corporate roles, and I thoroughly enjoyed both. Like two sides of a coin, one is nothing without the other. Working in the Big Four was a fantastic base, giving me extensive knowledge and experience. Corporate, on the other hand, has taught me how to specialise, focus, determine goals and meet them.

Stepping out of my comfort zone is a bit of a habit for me. I believe that when one becomes too comfortable in a position, it is time to move on and challenge oneself. Only in motion do things change. Taking risks is the only way to learn, meet people and get inspired. Challenges are adrenaline and adrenaline is fun.

During the height of the Covid-19 crisis, things got very busy. It was a lesson in crisis management, flexibility and the ability to deal quickly with real-time, constantly changing situations. It steeled my team and strengthened our teamwork. However, those are the only positives to glean from this tragedy.

I enjoy connecting people. A big part of my job is interacting with different people and integrating their input into a joint effort, moulding my team into a smooth operating machine while taking everyone’s individuality into consideration. I also like streamlining things so that repetitive tasks become automatic, giving more time for discussions with colleagues and making the business grow.

I am proud to have been a production manager in a small but well-known theatre while at the same time working full time as an accountant. Watching the applause every night from behind the curtain and knowing I helped a little was very rewarding. I think this is my biggest achievement.

As for hobbies, I compulsively collect earrings and am an avid traveller. My family and friends believe I love spending my time being their IT helpdesk, so I guess this now qualifies as a hobby too.
