ACCA has signed a memorandum of understanding with Spain’s professional body for accounting and finance professionals and professional economists, the Consejo General de Economistas (CGE), based in the capital, Madrid.

Under the partnership agreement, the two organisations will work together to explore reciprocal access to their professional accreditations, and possible exemptions. Joint training programmes will also be created for accounting and finance professionals. Other partnership initiatives will include the development of employment opportunities for members, the establishment of joint professional networks, and collaboration on research and conferences.

Soo Yee Leong, ACCA’s executive director for markets, said: ‘Both organisations’ members are working in an increasingly globalised world. The professional skills of accountants and economists are much in demand, especially for auditing, accounting, financial planning, tax compliance, restructuring and employment guidance, so we’re delighted to have signed this agreement.’

Salvador Marín, president of the European Federation of Accountants and Auditors for SMEs and the CGE’s general coordinator of international professional regulation, said: ‘Dealing with the upcoming challenges of our profession, caused by the current pandemic and the regulatory changes, it is essential we find prompt solutions. Our responsibility is to work together in aspects such as digitalisation, single market or non-financial information. For this reason, agreements such as the one we are signing today are of vital importance for the harmonisation and the recognition of our profession.’
