Baker Sheehy Crowe was established in Limerick in 2005. We offer a range of services including accounting, registered audit and tax consultation. Our three partners collectively bring 60 years’ experience to these roles. The principles of mutual respect, trust and professionalism guide the firm’s ethos.

My own areas of expertise include assisting startups, providing specialist services to established businesses, and all aspects of accounts, audit, tax compliance and business planning.

We believe in providing an efficient, reliable service to our clients that adds value while meeting their taxation and reporting obligations. To facilitate this, we spend time getting to know clients and their business, because we believe this will be the foundation for a lasting relationship. We are adept at tailoring our offering so that each client receives a bespoke service to best fit their needs and requirements.

Covid-19 has had a huge effect on every aspect of our lives, including business. Clients in vulnerable sectors have struggled to keep their businesses viable amid the uncertainty surrounding the pandemic and the restrictions it brought. In the early stages of lockdown, we dedicated a huge amount of time to help clients manage the effect it was having on their business – on staff in particular. Now that restrictions are easing and business is opening up, new challenges are emerging.

One of the biggest impacts from Covid-19 on how we work has been the provision of a remote-based service to clients. I feel this is one of the major advantages we can take forward from this crisis. Technology has become our best friend, and we can now easily manage clients and teams remotely. Personally, I have been operating a mix of remote and office-based work for a number of years, which has worked really well for me.

Prior to this crisis, I would avoid mentioning to clients or other professionals that I periodically worked from home. I felt it was perceived as signalling someone who was not really serious about their career. Now that many professionals have had the opportunity to work remotely, the many benefits have become apparent, and I am hopeful that this perception has changed.

The most important thing I have learned in my career is to listen. We can provide meaningful, relevant advice only when we listen to our clients and assess their requirements from their point of view. It is a stressful world out there, particularly at this time. Now, more than ever, our clients need us to provide support and advice in addition to the more regular accounts, audit and taxation services. I look forward to being available to offer this to my clients.
