I am an audit analytics senior manager at Deloitte based in Singapore and a team leader to a dedicated analytics team within the South-East Asia audit function. Deloitte is recognised as a leader by Gartner in data and analytics services worldwide. I enjoy being at the forefront of the firm’s innovation journey to transform the way audits are performed.
To a certain extent, I am no longer an accountant in the traditional sense. In this role, I deal more with data than financial reporting standards.
Growing up, I wanted to be a lawyer but I was persuaded by my cousin to pursue accountancy instead – he told me that with an ACCA Qualification, the possibilities are endless – and I’ve never looked back.
ACCA has undoubtedly played an instrumental role in my career. I believe it is because of the good work of the global and local ACCA community that the ACCA Qualification is recognised in Singapore. To illustrate this point, when I relocated permanently to Singapore from Malaysia, my new employer had no qualms hiring me, as he had trust in an ACCA-qualified individual.
The Covid-19 pandemic has really brought us closer together as ‘One People, One Nation, One Singapore’
Beyond ACCA, I am grateful for the strong professional relationships I have established that have led to where I am today. For instance, it was through a referral by my former supervisor that I met my current boss, which paved the way to this role at Deloitte that I enjoy tremendously.
My boss is also an FCCA even though he did not have the opportunity to attend university. This is testament to the fact that, with the ACCA Qualification alone, we can achieve our career goals.
The Covid-19 pandemic has really brought us closer together as ‘One People, One Nation, One Singapore’. It is heartening to see how small businesses and communities are supporting one another in this time of need.
A simple social media sweep will bring up many nice stories of the good that our people and businesses are doing. It really shows a different, compassionate side of Singapore and Singaporeans.
The achievement I’m most proud of is growing the Deloitte audit analytics team to what it is today. It has grown from being a single-geography team based in Singapore when I joined in August 2016 to a multi-country team, with dedicated personnel in Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.
My career aspirations lie with Deloitte. I hope to make partner one day and further develop my expertise in analytics and innovation, and be a mentor to help others develop to take on this increasingly important role.
My life aspiration is very simple: that I never forget what matters most to me, which is my family and continuing to provide the best for them.
