After completing my O-level education in rural Zimbabwe, I moved to the capital city, Harare, in early 1995 in search of a future. Lacking guidance or a mentor, I had no plan for what to do next, but thankfully I decided to further my studies.

Due to my good grade in mathematics, a college principal suggested I try accounting. After I obtained my diploma in accountancy from what was then the Zimbabwe Association of Accounting Technicians, my work superior advised me to pursue the ACCA Qualification.

It was the right step for me. ACCA’s reputation helped me when I moved to South Africa – it enabled me to think outside of the box. For the greater part of my career I worked for various SMEs, but I have experience of large consulting firms, too, so I feel well-rounded.

I have a passion for providing solutions. The great thing about working in practice is that it gives me the opportunity to meet and interact with a variety of clients from a range of sectors. Their needs are all unique and no one day is the same.

If I could change the law I’d make sure that those who mismanage public funds or engage in corrupt activities get life imprisonment. Their activities are literally a threat to human life. I’d like to see real penalties for fraud of all kinds to discourage greed, which is the major incentive for embezzlement of funds in many institutions.

I count attaining the ACCA Qualification as my biggest achievement. It was an indicator that I could be anything I wanted if l remained dedicated, which was a great motivator.

Covid-19 has badly harmed many SMEs and is a threat for all practices that focus on the sector. It has completely changed the way we do things; we have no choice but to adapt, otherwise we might not survive.

I enjoy helping those who are still pondering the next step in their career by giving information that will allow them to make sound decisions. I could have done with such assistance in my younger days. I always feel that I would have made a good lawyer if I were not an accountant.

I count attaining the ACCA Qualification as my biggest achievement. It was an indicator that I could be anything I wanted if l remained dedicated, which was a great motivator. However, I am convinced that I have not yet reached my full potential.

I like playing and watching soccer as well as giving career guidance to the young in the various communities I have access to. I also enjoy tutoring and mentoring accounting students.
