This year is the 33rd of my career as an auditor. In 1988, I joined Coopers & Lybrand Hong Kong. As part of the first batch who passed the Chinese Institute of Certified Public Accountants (CICPA) exams outside of mainland China in 1994, I was seconded to our Beijing office for two years from 1996. In 1998, the international merger of Price Waterhouse and Coopers & Lybrand resulted in PwC. In 2002, I relocated to PwC Dalian as the managing partner to further develop the business in north-east China.

I’ve always been very happy that I chose to join PwC. As a people-oriented professional services firm, it attaches great importance to learning and development and has sound and effective training programmes. One of them is the global talent flow plan, which sends local PwC employees to overseas network offices for work exchange. I am fortunate to be a beneficiary of this.

I help the government and global corporates understand their needs and find the right services for smarter expansion in China

When the Dalian office was first established, most of our clients were Japanese. Our clients now are all kinds, including state-owned enterprises and multinationals. There are partners and managers who have grown their careers under my coaching. We now have two offices in north-east China (Dalian and Shenyang) with more than 200 staff.

I have successively presided over the audit projects of restructuring Chinese enterprises going to capital markets at home or abroad to list or to seek financing. I’ve assisted domestic companies in establishing modern enterprise systems to improve management and operations. I’ve also participated in M&A investment in overseas markets.

I provide audit, internal control, investment and merger services for many global top 500 companies investing in China. I help the government and clients understand their needs and find the right services for smarter expansion in China. I also promote other PwC services, such as infrastructure or public private partnerships.

I’m very proud that PwC China officially launched the PwC Lab in Beijing in June 2020. It’s an important milestone that realises the firm’s digital office reform in order to adapt to the future workforce model of accelerating digital transformation.

As a leading professional services firm, we provide a good opportunity for employees to work with other service lines. As the team leader, I work with other auditors in different countries, and with other departments, such as tax, risk assurance, M&A and consulting, in order to serve different clients.

I would like to continue my social roles to contribute my knowledge, network and experiences to the growth of north-east China’s economy. I also hope to provide a bridge or contacts between inbound and outbound investors through my role as a member of various chambers of commerce.
