I have always loved numbers, and as a young girl maths was my favourite subject. This ability, coupled with a strong appetite to venture into entrepreneurship, made accountancy an area I was comfortable with, especially as a lot of businesses I knew had collapsed because of lack of proper accounting. Now, as a manager working with a Big Four firm, I am glad I made such a decision because of the wealth of knowledge and experience I have been able to develop.

At university, I was advised of the many advantages that come with beginning a career at an audit firm rather than going straight into industry. On graduating in 2010, I could have worked for a mining company, but when the opportunity came to start my career at an audit firm I grabbed the chance.

Learning is important to me. In 2018 I decided to pursue an MBA programme at the University of South Wales. I chose the university because of the wonderful testimonies I had heard about the school. I hope to graduate later this year.

I am confident that I’m now an accountant who is paving her future with IT

The world is fast-paced, and many solutions are now generated instantly with the help of technology. To remain relevant, I have had to step out of my comfort zone to learn programs such as the business analytics tool Power BI. This enables me to unify data from many sources to create interactive, immersive dashboards and reports that help me in my audit work. I am confident that I’m now an accountant who is paving her future with IT.

If I could change a law in Ghana, it would be to increase the three-month maternity leave to six months. From my own experience, leaving a baby to another person so soon after birth can be heart-breaking.

I find it fulfilling when I come up with value-adding recommendations for clients. I like saving my clients money and transforming their internal control systems. It is also exciting to see team members I trained growing in leaps and bounds and progressing in their careers.

My biggest achievement so far has been being able to juggle working for a Big Four firm with taking care of my husband and children, plus a church family. I have also been able to help less privileged people in my own small way. I have had the opportunity to touch the lives of prisoners and orphans, and in the future I hope to do this on a larger scale.

If I had not become an accountant, I think I would have been an entrepreneur, or a full-time minister of God. When I was young I wanted to be an air hostess, even though I had never flown on a plane.

In my spare time I enjoy listening to motivational messages. I write my own inspirational Christian messages on my blog, which I created a year ago. If a person is what they think, then I want to be remembered as a woman who thought and achieved. I also like exploring different buildings on YouTube and dreaming of owning them one day.
