I always enjoyed working with money and finance, and I participated in young enterprise during my A-levels at school. University wasn’t the route I wanted to take and so I found AAT, and this led on to me completing my ACCA exams.

Moving to an ACCA approved employer ensured I got a great foundation in accounting across multiple disciplines such as management accounts, audit and corporate finance. I now lead a team of software consultants who help customers solve their specific challenges.

As a software provider, Access has been incredibly busy during the pandemic. We’ve been working hard to support our customers and meet completely unexpected business challenges.

The main impacts for me personally were working at home with my two-year-old son and moving all of the typical face-to-face interactions to a virtual world. I love building relationships, and forming and developing them became a real challenge during the pandemic.

I will always seek out opportunities to go outside of my comfort zone. My recent move into podcasting is something I would not have dreamt of doing a year ago, but I have done it and created a brand. Two PreSales in a Pod now has thousands of listeners across more than 40 countries.

My grandad has had a great influence on me. He was a metallurgist and designed blast furnaces that produced huge quantities of steel all over the world. He was incredibly well respected in his field, and my goal was always to emulate that. His work ethic was phenomenal, and that is something I have always respected in him.

I am really proud that my wife and I have raised awareness for children born deaf. We support the National Deaf Children’s Society and have worked to raise hundreds of thousands of pounds to support this incredible charity.

When I’m not working, I really enjoy developing my sign-language skills with my little boy as he learns. I love to watch football and am a huge Newcastle United fan. I would also love to achieve my private pilot’s licence at some point in the coming years – if I wasn’t an accountant, I’d definitely be a pilot.
