I grew up on a farm in Trinidad and Tobago. My brothers and I milked the cows before school and helped with the harvest. When I was 19, I started off my professional career at PwC in Trinidad. Working for a Big Four firm at such a young age provided the experience that formed the foundation of my career.
My parents have had the greatest influence on my life. They taught me to live with gratitude and to be a human being of character, intention and alacrity. I was raised to believe that happiness is not a place to get to in life but, rather, a place to come from within.
I had a singular dream as a young man: to create a world that works for everyone, everywhere
My parents also taught me that you must always find a way to be of service to others. Therefore, while simultaneously working at PwC, I also co-founded a school offering ACCA courses to aspiring accountants across the Caribbean Islands.
I had a singular dream as a young man: to create a world that works for everyone, everywhere. Seeing so much unworkability around me both personally and professionally drove me to find an avenue that would create possibilities where I can hold myself and others accountable for creating a world that works. This is what inspired me to become an accountant and auditor.
I love living life in a constant state of self-discovery. This has led to an adventurous life. I’ve been a public speaker since I was 21 and I’ve performed my piano compositions live for large audiences.
At age 24 I left my job at PwC to open my own practice. Then, eight years ago, I emigrated from Trinidad and started life anew in New York City. This led to some exciting positions on Wall Street. I now live in Miami where I am a partner in a boutique accounting firm.
I feel one of my greatest accomplishments is creating my own model for leadership and performance. Built over a 20-year journey, the Wheel of Workability™ forms the foundation of all I do personally and professionally. I enjoy using my model and leaving others empowered and inspired.
If I had law-making powers, I would create internationally applicable legislation for gender equality and reparations for slavery.
If I were not an accountant, I would want to be a pilot. Every time I fly, I experience each flight as if it were my first. I take numerous pictures and always record my take-off and landing. I look forward to continuing my discovery of the world. Outside of work my hobbies are travelling, reading, writing, playing the piano and composing.
