I was always drawn to business studies while at high school but was unable to afford a traditional college education. The ACCA programme provided the perfect means of achieving a top qualification on a part-time basis. I was placed first in Trinidad and Tobago for the Level 3 sitting in December 2004.

The ACCA Qualification is reputable, and it allows for much flexibility and movement within your career.

I started my career as a trainee at a Big Four firm in Trinidad; soon after I had the opportunity to relocate to the Cayman Islands. Fifteen years later I am still here and enjoying every ‘island-time’ minute of it.

My family instilled in me the values of assiduousness, honesty and integrity, which are essential within the accountancy profession

My family has been my inspiration; they have always supported and believed in me. They instilled in me the values of assiduousness, honesty and integrity, which are essential within the accountancy profession.

After more than 10 years in practice, I decided to move to a senior accounting role at a multinational corporate firm within the financial services industry. It has been a challenging and rewarding experience, which has enabled me to gain a greater understanding of the industry while allowing me to hone new skills.

I have stepped out of my comfort zone throughout my career. I moved from Trinidad to Grand Cayman after qualifying at 24. I then left public practice to pursue my passion of lecturing, after which I made the transition from audit to industry. All these moves led to bigger and better things.

If I had law-making powers, I would seek harsher punishment for those who are involved in the mistreatment of animals.

The pandemic meant our firm had to expand its use of technology while Cayman was under lockdown. However, due to the resilience of staff and the firm’s technological infrastructure, service levels and quality were maintained.

I enjoy working with our diverse team of experienced professionals. We each have our own skillset, through which we contribute toward the team and our common goals.

My biggest achievement has been my work-life balance – sometimes a foreign concept in the financial services industry. I have been able to enjoy a challenging yet rewarding job, but I’ve had sufficient time to dedicate to my personal life and raising two young children.

If I were to ever leave accounting, I would resume lecturing. I have had such wonderful teachers and mentors, and I would love to be able to provide the same motivation and guidance to others.

In my spare time I enjoy reading, crafting, baking and travelling. I also have a passion for yoga.
