Our interview this month is with Naim Azad Din FCCA, whose previous experience in corporate finance and investment banking proved the perfect preparation for his current role as CFO at Boursa Kuwait, operator of the emirate’s stock exchange. He explains how a fascination with people’s behaviour helps him engage fully with the business’s varied stakeholders.

Elsewhere in the Middle East, we hear how the Saudi Organization for Chartered and Professional Accountants is working to raise financial reporting standards and ensure a pipeline of qualified accounting professionals in support of the government’s ‘Saudisation’ policy.

We also mark the start of the English Premier League and European football seasons, and warm up for the Fifa World Cup in Qatar in November, with an AB podcast on football finance. In it, Kieran Maguire, football finance lecturer at the University of Liverpool in the UK, looks at what’s at stake for the tournament’s organisers as well as for football clubs and investors more broadly.

Other key content this month includes an exploration of the regulatory and accounting implications of the metaverse; a feature challenging the illusion that perfectionism is a desirable quality in job candidates; and forthcoming amendments to IFRS Standards for SMEs.
