I started my career in the financial accounting team of a technology service provider in Australia. Having completed my master’s in accounting, I wanted first-hand experience of the local industry and to understand business processes like finance, sales and marketing, and administration, while also learning more about Australian corporate law and tax legislation.
In more recent years, I’ve aimed to further develop my leadership, communication and organisational skills, and to work with leading organisations across different industries. I was attracted to the Big Four, in my case first KPMG and now EY, which have given me the opportunity to directly see the impact of my work on businesses and communities.
My current role with EY Australia is providing risk consulting services to various international and local entities within the Australian financial services sector, including in banking, superannuation and insurance. We provide a variety of services, including internal audit, controls testing and anti-money laundering compliance review.
I believe consultants can support positive disruption with their out-of-the-box thinking
I love that my work has a visible impact on my client organisations. It helps enhance and transform different business and financial processes and control environments, which in turn helps entities thrive in an ever-changing business world. I also get to directly learn from some of the best industry practices through such engagements.
In my current role, my goals are to help businesses achieve success. I believe consultants have a very important role to play in today’s world and can support positive disruption with their out-of-the-box thinking. In the long term, I aim to become a director with EY Australia.
I am also passionate about helping underprivileged people as well as working for environmental causes. I try to regularly get involved in volunteering opportunities with organisations in the health and not-for-profit sectors.
I have several key career achievements, which are all important to me for different reasons. I feel proud to have become an ACCA member, which involved years of hard work, dedication and self-motivation. Being a member has helped me become a better professional and a better person.
Another important achievement was the opportunity to help a leading international not-for-profit and a government organisation client of KPMG Bangladesh successfully implement a ‘clean water and sanitation for all’ goal. Our work helped improve the health standards within large communities and gave us an incredible opportunity to positively impact the lives of underprivileged people.
If I weren’t an accountant? I’m passionate about architecture, so perhaps an architect. Computer science and engineering seem like interesting fields; I think I’d have enjoyed these professions, too.
