We end 2022 with a look back at highlights from our regular interviews with members over the year, providing insights into a wide range of careers, aspirations, business challenges – and some amazing sporting achievements.

Continuing the sporting theme, AB columnist Ian Guider argues that the Fifa World Cup showcased some tricky business decisions, as well as some stunning performances on the pitch. He says global sporting organisations need to learn how to protect their reputation as well as their revenues.

Other highlights to end 2022 include infographics illustrating the rise and fall of accountancy software providers and the performance of the global software market.

We also look at how the taxation of online operations is proving burdensome for small businesses. Many SME retailers are realising that the apparently simple ambition of selling their products online means grappling with complex indirect tax issues in the countries where their customers are located.

Another major theme during 2022 that is set to loom large over the next 12 months is how companies monitor and demonstrate their commitment to sustainability, as environmental concerns remain a critical issue across the globe. We have an end-of-year round-up of the developments in climate change disclosure requirements and guidance of interest for Irish firms.
