I always wanted to have a career in one of the professions. My ability to be practical and methodical meant that I would be perfectly suited to accountancy.

I had a varied start to my career, working in insurance and the public sector. But I decided I wanted experience in a corporate environment where I could develop layers of skills, including in financial and management accounting. I wasn’t necessarily going to get this experience working in practice.

It feels unique being female in the still male-dominated automotive industry

Mechatronics Systems Wales (MSW) is a newly formed subsidiary of the Jtekt Group. We specialise in the bespoke design of electronic power steering control and power control modules for the competitive automotive sector. I have variety and autonomy in my role, and the culture here at MSW is first class.

Brexit and the pandemic aside, digital transformation has brought about new challenges in automating current functions. Having to adapt to these changes has presented new ways of working, affecting individuals, teams and other departments. We must continue to evolve our way of thinking.

If I hadn’t been an accountant, I would have loved to have been a choreographer. I still dream of it to this day. I love music and have taken up learning the tenor saxophone (not to my family’s delight!).
