I have worked in audit practice for nearly 10 years and have been with KPMG my whole career, specialising in technology, media and telecommunications. I have had an amazing journey at KPMG Canada so far and really enjoy working in the tech space in Canada. I’m especially interested in software and telecommunication as there are many exciting developments that are taking place in this space. I truly believe technology is our future.

I was inspired to become an accountant by my father. He has worked in the profession for his entire life. I was blessed to learn from one of the best!

I have always been more attracted to a role in practice instead of taking a corporate job. The exposure in audit firms to new accounting standards, working with talented people, and engaging with different companies is very exciting.

The best part about my job is being able to learn every single day

In my role you don’t step out of your comfort zone, because in a Big Four audit practice you are never in your comfort zone. You must always remain on your toes, especially if you work with large public companies.

We must all do more to be more sustainable. In 2020 KPMG globally announced its intention to become a net-zero carbon business by 2030. This includes a 50% reduction in KPMG’s direct and indirect greenhouse gas emissions by 2030, and a commitment to 100% renewable electricity by 2022.

If I had law-making powers, I would impose tough penalties on countries that do not meet set environmental sustainability targets. Each country needs to be held accountable every year, and all should have to provide reports on how they are performing against their targets. If they fail, penalties must be imposed.

The best part about my job is being able to learn every single day. The technology space is rapidly evolving and the opportunity for learning is immense. I also really enjoy communicating with my clients and coaching young accountants.

My biggest achievement is realising how much I have grown through my career. I have had a lot of success throughout my career, both academically and professionally, but I have been humbled by the support I have received. The best part of the profession is being able to touch the lives of many young accountants. It is great seeing them succeed and grow, and I wouldn’t trade that for anything.

If I wasn’t an accountant, I think would be working in social care, where I would make sure the skills I have learnt through my career are passed onto our youth. I would help mentor young talent to make sure they are better prepared to face obstacles. I truly believe my journey is to help people around me succeed, and to try to be a better version of myself.

In my spare time I enjoy meditation. I have gone on many retreats, away from my cellphone for a week, which is a very hard thing to do! I spend 15 minutes every day meditating. I also love spending time with my family and fiancée. I, like everyone else, enjoy bingeing on Netflix, especially sci-fi.
