GE is an American multinational best known for its work in the power, renewable energy, aviation and healthcare industries. As a financial reporting leader at GE, my job is to ensure the compilation and review of the financials for the discontinued operations of GE Capital and to support the preparation of related disclosure notes for 10K/Q filings in the US. Additionally, I have directorship responsibilities for two of our former subsidiary companies.

We focused on engagement and helping employees remain motivated during a very uncertain time

When the pandemic started, the immediate challenge was to quickly transition to the new norm of working from home, while continuing to meet our deliverables. Our top priority was the safety of our employees. We also focused on engagement and helping employees remain motivated during a very uncertain time. I personally organised coffee chats with colleagues to bridge the gap between remote working and working from the office. Our organisation’s engagement team also helped by leading quarterly events to ensure we remained connected as a team.

We remain focused on continuing to motivate and engage our teams as the pandemic continues and as we navigate ongoing change in our organisation.

Having a wing-to-wing perspective has helped keep me ahead of the curve

As part of my ACCA journey, I had tremendous support from the ACCA network in Ireland and have made it a point to give back to the community. After becoming a member in 2021, I was fortunate enough to be elected to the Leinster members panel. We look forward to increasing member engagement in the region by organising various events and talks, while working in parallel with other members panels across Ireland.

I realised early on in my career at GE that it takes more than just hard work to succeed. Having a wing-to-wing perspective, along with knowing the upstream and downstream impacts of my role, has helped keep me ahead of the curve and allowed me to serve the organisation effectively. This approach has helped me grow with GE for more than 20 years, working in roles across the globe.
