I’m the head of Sanofi Business Services (SBS) Kuala Lumpur Center, one of the two captive Global Business Services (GBS) centres for Sanofi Group. These centres provide finance and accounting, as well as human resources services, to China, Asia, Japan, Asia Pacific and the Greater Gulf, comprising 17 countries and 43 entities with a growing scope.

I’m involved in a wide range of tasks and responsibilities, including organisational set up, change management, talent acquisition, talent management, people engagement, people development, market positioning and branding.

I love my role because it fuels my passions for finance transformation and people development. It’s so enriching to be able to use all my knowledge and experience from both my accounting and consulting days to not only drive the business agenda but to passionately nurture, cultivate and influence tomorrow’s talent pool, and be involved in formulating talent acquisition and management strategies to continually build capability-focused millennial talent.

I consider myself very lucky to be part of an organisation with a great purpose and leaders who spur my growth while allowing me to operate with honesty and integrity.

I was first exposed to accounting at 13 and by 17 I knew I wanted to pursue the ACCA Qualification. After reading about ACCA in a newspaper and learning of its professional code of conduct and ethical governance, I was determined to be part of this esteemed body as it shared my principles and value system.

My biggest career influencers are my mum and older siblings, who have been the pillars of my life since I lost my dad, who was the sole breadwinner, when I was 10. My mum remained positive and resilient as she played the role of both parents to ensure I was brought up to be a well-rounded individual with the educational foundation to succeed.

She has always inspired me to have integrity as a core value, and always stressed the importance of a good character as well as good grades. Both my siblings, who are much older, sacrificed a lot to support my mum in giving me the best future and they never failed to encourage me.

ACCA has been a solid foundational pillar for my career advancement, giving me the confidence to become a vocal advocate

The first of my two biggest achievements was the completion of my doctoral studies while leading projects as a consultant at Deloitte Consulting SEA. Being someone who is passionate about life-long learning and development, it was an enriching experience despite being a tough ride that required sheer determination.

The second is my current role, which requires vision, grit and strong business acumen. ACCA has been a solid foundational pillar for my career advancement, giving me the confidence to become a vocal advocate for the GBS mandate and to fight for new turf and capabilities development within the group.

I also contribute as an adviser to the GBS industry via the Shared Services & Outsourcing Network and am an advocate of the profession; I recently joined the ACCA Malaysia Advisory Committee, representing the GBS sector.
