According to Balance for Better Business (B4BB), an independent, business-led review group established by the government in 2018 to improve and promote gender balance at board and leadership level, Ireland has moved from 17th to 12th position in the ranking of women on the boards of the largest companies in the EU.

At the same time, while there has been progress within Ireland’s biggest companies, more work still needs to be done.

However, despite B4BB’s target that no listed companies should have an all-male board, there are still five (13%) Irish-listed companies without any female representation at board level.

Leadership teams

Currently, only one in five leadership positions in Irish-listed companies is held by a woman, and female representation at CFO level has remained relatively static.
