Football taught me discipline and hard work – something I apply now in my day-to-day role
Our university credit-rated programme teaches some of the most in-demand technologies globally, and our focus is to assist our students in landing a new career in tech after graduation.
In my role as finance manager, I manage the day-to-day running of the accounting function, AP, AR, monthly management accounts, performance reporting, forecasts, budgets and managing our yearly audit. I work closely with our senior management team to ensure we provide up-to-date reporting to assist the decision-making and strategic decisions for the business.
I began my career with the institute working remotely during the Covid-19 pandemic. This is something I had never done before and I have adapted to it while leading and managing a team.
On a personal level, my wife is a nurse so the pandemic has had a direct impact on us at home. We are so proud of all she has done for her patients and for us.
As the business continues to grow, we have added to our team with the appointment of a new finance director. This will give the team more resources to provide additional insight into the business as a whole, and contribute more value as we grow and add new markets and products in the future.
We will ensure that the finance function is prepared and ready to facilitate new business and products from both a project capacity and accounting practices.
I would like to add some more corporate knowledge this year and to continue to develop and help our business to scale and grow into the future. My wife is currently pregnant so I will certainly be learning some new skills on the home front, too!

I play football and was a professional footballer for a time. This means I am used to being part of a performance-focused team and I’ve learned how to lead people in the right way. It also taught me discipline and hard work – something I was able to apply throughout my ACCA exams and now in my day-to-day role.
Football also gave me a lot of great opportunities to see different parts of the world and I was lucky to get to play for my country at several different levels.
My dad, who is an electrician, has run his own business, Forsyth Electrical, for 38 years. He has always been a great role model for me. He once told me when I was younger ‘to always work hard and, most of all, to have pride in what you do’. That has always stuck with me and is something that I’ve applied in all I have done, in both my personal and professional life.
