I started my career at the State Audit Bureau (SAB) as an assistant auditor in the energy and industry audit section and was promoted to auditor after proving myself in the field. I have also represented the SAB in numerous government committees as an observer.

My father inspired me to become an accountant. He was one of the first CPAs in Qatar and is a renowned auditor in the Gulf Cooperation Council countries.

The Covid-19 pandemic was a challenge for me. I was studying for my ACCA Qualification and was demotivated when the exams were cancelled. However, I managed to take advantage of the lockdowns and concentrated my efforts on successfully qualifying.

If I had the power, I would advocate for better regulation within the fintech sector

As more public sector organisations in Qatar develop their reporting, the demand for accountants will increase significantly. I think this will attract more qualified accountants to work in the public sector. I applied to work for the SAB as it gives great job security along with a good work/life balance, so I can spend more time on developing myself.

During the preparations for the 2022 Fifa World Cup, we had to shift from attending the office to working from home. I communicate better face to face so working online is challenging for me. However, I am happy that tournament is happening in Qatar as it will bring a significant positive impact and help Qatar to reach one of the goals of National Vision 2030: decreasing the country’s reliance on oil and gas. Although I am happy about these positive effects, I am not a fan of football so I will not be attending any of the matches.

I believe that laws should change more rapidly to keep up with technology and the economy. If I had the power, I would advocate for better regulation within the fintech sector, to speed up the introduction of more digitised systems.

My qualification has helped me to thrive, using my effort and skills to be creative

What I enjoy most about working for the SAB is the feeling I have of serving the people of my country. This gives me a real sense of purpose because I have great responsibility on my shoulders, and faith from the people that the SAB is always guiding government entities to work in the best interests of Qatar. Our reports are seen as a key input by the country’s decision-makers, which gives me pride in the work I do.

My biggest achievement is being the youngest qualified accountant in the SAB and I am proud to be one of the few Qatari ACCA members. My qualification has helped me to thrive, using my effort and skills to be creative while conducting my work. I have also recommended significant changes in the SAB's reporting structure and these have been implemented.

If I wasn’t a qualified accountant, I would have been a doctor. I always see doctors as heroes as they help people to have healthier and longer lives, so I feel it is a most noble job.

My biggest passion outside of work is travelling. I have always enjoyed new experiences and exploring new cultures and food. I also like to play padel, a racket sport that originated in Spain and recently became popular in Qatar.
