This year has seen a slew of changes and challenges on the international scene, and as you take a well-earned rest after a busy 12 months, AB offers an alternative view of some of the big news stories of 2023.

Closer to home, we have highlights from our regular interviews with members over the year, providing insights into a wide range of careers, aspirations and business challenges.

Technology remains a key theme of the year, and is one of the areas singled out as offering growth opportunities for accounting firms in our interview with Brian McEnery FCCA, who is the managing partner at BDO (and former ACCA president). His big prediction for 2024 is the importance of sustainability reporting as companies strive to establish their environmental, social and governance credentials.

Elsewhere we have a timely reminder that new enhanced employer reporting rules come into effect from January, and learn about some of the steps companies can take to address supply chain woes, which are fast becoming the new normal.

December saw double delight at ACCA Ireland’s new members event, when mother and daughter Paula Brady and Hailey Gilbey both celebrated achieving qualification. Find out more about their route to new career goals.

And if that inspires you to make changes in your own career, AB has a range of articles offering CPD units to help you build up new expertise in the coming months.

Happy New Year!
