I have always been curious about how auditing works as it gives out a CSI vibe, so I am actively engaged in accounting and auditing. The choice of my career path was also partly due to the influence of my parents, who had a business accounting background.
I foresee that audit procedures will continuously evolve to go beyond conventional practices. With additional guidance from professional bodies such as the International Auditing and Assurance Standards Board (IAASB), I need to plan, execute, report and wrap up each engagement professionally with my team, partner, manager and reporting personnel.
I ensure that my work adheres to frameworks and legislation as well as apply critical thinking and a constructive mindset
As a senior auditor I ensure that my work adheres to frameworks and legislation as well as apply critical thinking and a constructive mindset to each assignment. The job enables me to grow and develop in my career as an accounting professional.
As technology is developing at a rapid pace, firms should embrace and implement digital change. A continually evolving digital landscape can often challenge us but it is critical to our economic growth. Standards are being developed to take into account all the changes that are happening.
It is normal to feel emotional discomfort when things go against our expectations
I came to Hong Kong in March 2022 at the height of the Covid-19 pandemic. Before then, I was based in Malaysia, working as a financial analyst, but an opportunity arose to take my career in an exciting direction. It was my first time working abroad, in a place where the people closest to me were not physically close by. I started to feel overwhelmed when the workload increased significantly and there was less breathing room in my working day.
Thankfully, I have a support system. I check in with my therapist when needed and keep in touch regularly with people close to me, such as my family and partner. I also participate in weekend activities with friends, exploring Hong Kong and taking this experience as a working holiday.
It is normal to feel emotional discomfort when things go against our expectations. It is important to express what we are feeling and voice these difficulties to professionals, such as counsellors or therapists.
