Bankers are poised to become trusted business advisers
My path into accounting began when I pursued a degree in accounting at the Chinese University of Hong Kong. The intensive coursework and exposure to financial principles kindled my passion for numbers and financial analysis. I took the ACCA qualification to augment my accounting knowledge and attain a globally recognised certification.
The banking profession is undoubtedly witnessing a significant transformation. This has been driven by technological advances and a shift in regulatory landscapes. In the future, banking professionals will be required to exhibit heightened tech acumen, leveraging automation and artificial intelligence to streamline processes and amplify efficiency. As data continues to gain prominence, banking professionals will play a pivotal role in data analysis and decision-making, imparting valuable insights to businesses.
The banking industry will likely shift from a traditional credit and lending role to a more strategic advisory role. Bankers are poised to become trusted advisers, guiding businesses through multifaceted financial landscapes and contributing to overall business strategy and expansion.
The dynamic nature of the finance industry presents challenges that demand foresight and preparedness. As technological progress and digital disruptions continue to shape the industry, staying at the forefront of innovation is paramount. I am steadfast in my commitment to continuous learning and upskilling. Remaining up to date on the latest trends and tools in accounting and finance is instrumental in remaining competitive and relevant in the industry.
I would emphasise the value of embracing change with enthusiasm
‘Learn everything you can, any time you can, from anyone you can.’ To my peers and aspiring accounting professionals, I would emphasise the value of cultivating a growth mindset and embracing change with enthusiasm. The accounting profession is inherently dynamic, which makes adaptation key to remaining relevant and impactful.
I would encourage the building of a robust network within the industry. Networking cultivates valuable connections and insights, fostering both personal and professional growth.
Outside of work, I find solace in practising meditation. It contributes to my overall wellbeing and aids in maintaining a clear and focused mind amidst a demanding work schedule. I also enjoy outdoor activities, such as hiking and exploring nature whenever time permits.
