Spring marks the time for change, even if the weather may still need to catch up. Our main interview this month is with Helen Redmond FCCA, director of finance and support services at the Irish Heart Foundation. As well as providing much needed support to those with cardiovascular disease, the charity is working to encourage initiatives that will have a positive impact on the nation’s health in the future.

The biggest changes in the workplace are being driven by new technology, most notably the widespread use of artificial intelligence. The EU’s forthcoming legislation in this area marks a major turning point in the way AI and its use will be regulated across the private and public sector, with stiff penalties for non-compliance. We examine the new requirements.

The accounting sector itself is also undergoing a period of reinvention, with a rash of mergers and acquisitions. AB looks at the reasons why consolidation is accelerating, and the pros and cons for Irish practices.

On the political stage, a major change has been the resumption of power-sharing government in Northern Ireland after a 24-month hiatus. Our columnist Ian Guider considers what the new executive should do to reinvigorate the economy and truly reap the peace dividend, 25 years after the Good Friday agreement was signed.

Accountants have a key role in making change happen. ACCA Europe hosted a Big Conversation this month, bringing together a panel of accounting professionals from across Europe to discuss how to address current and future challenges. Catch up on their ideas and suggestions for action.
