The proportion of women in senior positions at financial services firms is on the increase according to data from the second annual report on Ireland’s Women in Finance charter.

The analysis by the Economic and Social Research Institute is based on findings from the 91 companies with 65,000 employees to have signed the charter since its launch in 2022. They account for around half of all employees in the financial services sector.

The survey found that, in order to create better gender balance, financial services organisations were most likely to opt for the same two actions in both 2023 and 2024: examining hiring practices (78%) and identifying female leaders (77%).

However, the analysis suggested these were not necessarily the most successful approaches to encourage change.
