I decided early on to become an auditor as I was inspired by a teacher at university who is also an ACCA member. ACCA was quite new to Vietnam, and he spent a lot of time introducing the qualification and the potential career paths, which really helped.
I became an ACCA affiliate straight after graduating university with a degree in accounting and auditing. I started as an intern at PwC Vietnam, and I’m still here nearly nine years later. I’m currently a senior manager in the assurance line of service, supporting the practice by delivering audit services to a diversified client portfolio, mainly from financial services, telecommunications and service provision in Vietnam.
A service that ensures trust in financial information is required now more than ever
Vietnam is growing fast and the economy is dynamic. The desire for a service that ensures trust in financial information is required now more than ever. I’m happy to contribute to this with PwC, where our aim is to ‘work together to build trust in society and solve important problems’.
Working for a professional services firm gives me the chance to develop a broad network of contacts and relationships. These range from top management to operational teams, helping me deeply understand the business flow and extend my viewpoint by looking at matters from different perspectives.
The thing I love most at PwC is the working environment, which is open, motivated and transparent. Even though my main task is delivering audit work for clients, I’ve been involved in many other types of assignments. These include financial due diligence, accounting advisory services, and consulting services where we work as a team with multiple service lines across the firm. This flexible and diversified context has provided challenges, taught me how to deal with many different issues, how to manage stakeholder expectations and, above all, unlock my potential and develop confidence.
Finding a sweet spot between work and life is tough
Finding a sweet spot between work and life is tough, especially when working in a professional services firm. However, I feel proud (and sometimes lucky) that I have maintained it for such a long period of time by developing a can-do mindset, continuously learning how to manage my time, and trying to plan well for everything in life.
Working with talented, meticulous colleagues in PwC makes me feel energetic and proud of my workplace. I’m also excited to see who I can be and what I can do in the next 10 years through working with one firm.
If I weren’t an accountant, I might have considered becoming a teacher. I love sharing my sense of positivity with others, especially the younger generation to help form their direction, in the same way that my teacher affected me nearly 10 years ago.
