Being a partner in Deloitte gives me a sense of ownership. It makes me a stakeholder in the business, with a business owner’s perspective, which reinforces my motivation to perform. My aim is to make decisions that foster the overall growth of the business, with staff and initiatives geared towards moving the firm forward. This involves collaborating with fellow partners to make strategic decisions and at the same time create the right working environment for staff.

My favourite subject at school was actually science but, due to my love for numbers, I decided to pursue a career in professional accounting. Having first completed a degree in education at the University of Cape Coast, I resolved to study for the ACCA qualification, which in turn opened doors to me at Deloitte Ghana.

Doing accounting exams while working as an auditor is very demanding and requires a lot of hard work and commitment. However, engaging with experienced professionals and training at the same time contributed to my development, and combining work with university added practical relevance to my studies. Being able to use what I was learning about in my daily work also made the training more enjoyable. Over time, I moved up through the firm to my current position of audit partner.

I am able to draw on insights gained from involvement across entire project lifecycles

Working within a single firm has allowed me to expand my knowledge and experience by engaging in diverse sectors. This comprehensive background enables me to deliver solutions drawn from the many insights I have gained from my involvement across entire project lifecycles. It has also given me a wealth of institutional knowledge that empowers me to make informed contributions to policy, such as raising awareness about ethical considerations and promoting a culture of speaking out against unethical behaviour.

What I enjoy most about my job is helping my clients achieve their goals by finding the answers to intricate business challenges. I find it fulfilling to work in an area that captivates my interest and inspires me to learn more. I also like to mentor junior staff – helping them with their careers is very satisfying.

Accountants in Ghana play a crucial role in upholding integrity and fostering accountability

In Ghana there is a substantial number of ACCA accountants engaged in various industries and auditing roles. They play a crucial role in upholding integrity and fostering accountability in their sectors. Being ACCA-qualified, they voluntarily take the lead in ethics and anti-corruption compliance programmes and their involvement is an inspiration for others, encouraging a collective commitment to ethical conduct and contributing to a better society.

If I had law-making powers, I would abolish the death penalty and replace it with life imprisonment. Certain offences, notably treason, still incur the death penalty in Ghana, but I believe that every life has value and, regardless of the severity of the crime, giving individuals a second chance is a fundamental principle.

Holistic wellbeing is crucial to deliver one’s utmost potential

My favourite saying is ‘mens sana in corpore sano’, which means ‘a sound mind in a sound body’. I believe that holistic wellbeing is crucial to deliver to one’s utmost potential.

If I wasn’t an accountant, I think I would have been a doctor. My father and my sisters are dedicated medical professionals who inspire me, as they give their best to save lives.

When I am not at work, I enjoy spending quality time with my husband and extended family. I also like indulging in mystery movies.
