Being CEO means I have the freedom to implement my ideas and immerse myself in creativity about all aspects of the business. I love experimenting with business processes and automation while also dealing with all other aspects of the company’s activities. Creating automation solutions and business applications is something I like to do even after work, and as the founder and CEO I can focus more of my time in this area.
However, there is a challenging side to my role too. Because Difinno is a recently established business, I have to do many things myself and can’t dedicate most of my time to one business area and implement my ideas as quickly as I would like to.
The promotion was a leap in position with a serious new responsibility attached
Accepting a new position as an account manager was one of the scariest decisions in my career. The offer of the account manager role at Nordgain, which involved the development of accounting services (and a team) for foreign clients, came only a few months after I’d been promoted from junior accountant to accountant at Citco.
Nordgain had been working only with local clients up to then, so many processes had to be implemented from scratch. The promotion was a leap of two or three levels in position with a serious new responsibility attached. It all turned out well as I worked there for nine years and had the opportunity to be part of the firm’s fivefold growth.
I particularly like a quote attributed to Henry Ford. ‘Whether you think you can or you think you can’t, you’re right.’ He meant that there are endless opportunities if we can just manage to shift our mindset the right way.
I enjoy creating something that involves multiple factors and stakeholders
Lithuania’s fintech sector is very competitive compared to most other European countries. Geographically, we are at the crossroads between north and south, east and west. Being in the middle of trade and logistics routes creates opportunities but also forces us to be considerate and to have various safeguards in place for the geopolitical challenges.
There are many imperfect laws, but I see the law as a constantly developing entity. It needs to consider changing circumstances and find an acceptable balance for all stakeholders. I am generally happy with what the current legislative system provides to me and my family.
If I wasn’t in finance, I would have gone into engineering as it has always fascinated me. Business process automation takes a large share of my time and it bears some resemblance to engineering. Creating something that involves multiple factors and stakeholders is something I enjoy doing.
I enjoy creating business process automation, robotisation and similar solutions even after I leave the office. I have also played beach volleyball for over 10 years and still enjoy it.
