I embarked on my professional journey in 2019 at the age of 21, starting in an SME in Singapore. After gaining initial experience, I moved back to Malaysia, my home country, to advance my career with a Big Four firm. However, the dynamic nature of the audit profession eventually led me back to Singapore, where I found my career breakthrough with PKF-CAP.
My mother, who was also an auditor, was a constant source of inspiration. She often shared stories about the finance world and the many esteemed professionals she encountered through ACCA. Her passion sparked my interest in the field, and that encouragement led me to take the first step into the finance industry. The rest, as they say, is history.
Each person I meet brings new perspectives that have made me the person I am today
Currently, I’m an audit manager at PKF-CAP, where my role encompasses managing audit engagements, leading teams, reviewing audit deliverables and ensuring that we adhere to professional standards. What I find most fulfilling is not just the intellectual engagement but also the opportunity to meet inspiring people from all walks of life. Each person I meet brings new perspectives that have shaped me and made me the person I am today, enriching both my professional and personal growth.
ACCA, for me, initially seemed like just a qualification on paper. However, what I didn’t expect was the rich network of colleagues, friends and mentors that would come with it. It has helped me to meet new people, build valuable business relationships and foster connections that have been invaluable throughout my career. I’ll be forever grateful for these professional and personal relationships.
On a personal note, I met my wife during our ACCA studies more than eight years ago, and she has been a constant pillar of support ever since. A shout out also to Chee Siew Fai FCCA, a member of the Singapore Network Panel, for his unwavering support in my networking journey.
I was surprised and humbled to be promoted from a first-year senior associate to assistant manager
One of my proudest achievements was promotion to assistant audit manager. Having always envisioned a break from audit once I’d reached senior associate, I was surprised and humbled to be promoted from a first-year senior associate to assistant manager – an unprecedented leap in my firm. It wasn’t just the title that mattered to me, but what it signified: recognition of my contributions and value to the firm. With the wealth of opportunities and the guidance from my mentors at PKF, I aspire to becoming an audit partner. The journey ahead excites me, and I’m eager to continue contributing to PKF’s success.
Outside of work, I find peace in the simple joys of cooking and maintaining my home. These small but meaningful activities help me manage stress and stay balanced in such a demanding profession.
If I weren’t an accountant, I believe I would have pursued a different passion altogether. I might have become a chef and open my own restaurant, sharing the comfort of Malaysian cuisine with the world.
