At school I had a passion for biology and agriculture. However, I chose to take examinations in business subjects and I received the highest marks that any student of the school had ever received. This was the spark that led to my career path. I started in accounting as a perpetual inventory clerk, then moved my way up to financial accountant, chief accountant, head of finance and finance controller.

After completing my ACCA, I needed a new challenge and decided to increase my qualifications. I chose an MBA because I desired some diversity and wanted to help organisations improve their performances.

The knowledge my MBA gave me has helped me in discussions at the Board of Directors level, and I have now assisted other MBA students to complete their studies. I am also proud of being an FCCA, and also hold a Masters in project management as a Fellow of the American Academy of Project Management.

I have published 104 books on a wide variety of subjects

What I enjoy most about my job is that it allows me to meet so many people. I am then able to learn from them and also share my wisdom. While some aspects of the job are routine, I also have the opportunity to be creative in many areas. There is often the need for ad hoc reports, so I get to use my knowledge and experience across many areas of business.

Writing has been my passion since I was at school. In fact, I have now published 104 books on a wide variety of subjects – including business, family and religious matters. I have written several procedures for organisations that helped to enhance and bolster their internal controls and improve business operations. Most of my books were written in the last five years. I have achieved a Global Author Award in 2022 from The Global Authors' Club and Business Awards.

I established my Learning Institute and Business Consultancy in 2020 to offer literary products and consultancy services. ‘Needs’ are everywhere! People, businesses and communities have ‘needs’ – small and large – that are not being met, and sometimes they are clueless about who to approach for assistance. I am committed to the fulfilment of some of these needs, and pledge to give back some of the profits derived to the less fortunate.

Staff on bigger salaries ought to be paying more tax than the lower-paid

If I had law-making powers, I would lower the income tax threshold for employees in Guyana. People at the bottom of the ladder need more money. Senior staff with bigger salaries ought to be paying more in tax than lower-paid employees.

If I weren’t in finance, I’d like to be the CEO of my own company. It would allow me to implement many of the ideas I have about organisations and how to improve their performance. As it would be my business, I would treat employees in the same way I want to be treated myself.

In my spare time I enjoy reading. I always like to be informed about what is happening in Guyana and the world at large. I find discussions with people around me stimulating, as I can always learn from others. But I also believe I have opportunities to inspire many other people and have taken on a number of mentorship roles.
