My favourite quote is from American artist and illustrator Andrew Loomis, whose words I find endlessly encouraging: ‘Try not to be impatient… In all we attempt, skill is the result of trying again and again, applying our ability and proving our knowledge as we gain it.’ This reminds me that challenges are a natural part of any endeavour, and overcoming them and improving my skills are key to success.

My father teaches accounting, so he played a significant role in sparking my interest in the profession. I pursued a degree in accounting and then gained my ACCA qualification. Since beginning my career in 2020, I have gained extensive experience as an auditor with EY in Gaborone, working with diverse clients across various industries. I have honed my skills in financial analysis, audit and compliance, and I continue to grow in the accounting field.

My long-term career goal is to leverage my financial skills in a strategic role at a corporation

While I enjoy audit, I am keen to explore new opportunities as my career unfolds. My long-term goal is to leverage my financial skills in a strategic role at a corporation. I am particularly interested in work involving financial analysis, business strategy and emerging technologies, where I can contribute to the success of an organisation. However, I am also open to the possibility of aiming for a partner position in audit. At this stage in my career, the world is my oyster.

Despite having a stable economy, with strong institutions and democratic governance, Botswana faces several challenges. The economy is still heavily dependent on diamond mining, so there's a need to diversify to improve economic stability in the long term. As elsewhere in Africa, unemployment, especially among our youth, is also a significant issue.

There are many opportunities, however. The tourism sector is a potential goldmine, given Botswana's incredible beauty and wildlife. Agriculture is another promising sector, especially if we modernise farming techniques and improve supply chains. Renewable energy, especially solar power, also has enormous potential since we have abundant sunshine. And in our fast-moving world, the technology and innovation sector presents many opportunities for businesses to develop digital solutions capable of addressing socio-economic challenges.

If I had law-making powers, I would prioritise issues around drug abuse. I would work on implementing comprehensive laws that focus on prevention through education and rehabilitation rather than just punishment. It is crucial to create support systems for addicts, while also cracking down on drug trafficking to keep our communities safe.

My deep passion for drawing and digital painting allows me to express my creativity

What I like best about my role is that I get to work closely with diverse clients across different industries. This makes every day interesting and challenging.

If I weren’t an accountant, I would have pursued my passion for art. I would explore drawing, painting and even digital art. It allows me to express myself in ways that financial statements cannot, and it remains a significant part of my life. That said, I’ve also always loved exploring new and interesting concepts and bringing people along on the journey with me, so perhaps I might have been a teacher.

Outside of work, I immerse myself in hobbies that bring me joy and relaxation. As well as feeding my creative side through visual arts activities, I enjoy learning new languages, so I can connect with different cultures and broaden my horizons. Recently, I've also taken up learning the piano, which has been both challenging and rewarding.
