Companies in Pakistan face many challenges, with economic instability a major concern for the business community. Other negative factors include energy crises, political uncertainty, taxation issues, skill shortages, limited digital transformation and supply chain disruptions. However, recently the government and other institutions have been working to address these challenges, aiming to create a better business environment and attract foreign investors.

It was my passion for numbers, problem-solving and finance that led me to accounting. I was also inspired by family members in the profession and a mentor who demonstrated how financial planning leads to business success. I pursued a degree in accounting, then went on to gain experience in auditing, taxation and ERP solutions, steadily advancing in my career.

Leaving one’s comfort zone is often the key to growth

I stepped out of my comfort zone when I took on my first leadership role. Managing a team and making critical decisions pushed me beyond my accustomed responsibilities, but it ultimately helped me develop confidence, problem-solving skills and adaptability. Leaving one’s comfort zone is often the key to growth, both personally and professionally.

My favourite quote comes from Winston Churchill: ‘Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts.’ This powerful quote resonates with me as it is a reminder that both success and failure are temporary states. Perseverance is what truly matters in any journey.

What I love most about my job is driving meaningful change and innovation. I enjoy identifying inefficiencies, implementing new strategies and leveraging technology to improve business processes. Seeing the positive impact of transformation is incredibly rewarding, whether in enhancing productivity or fostering a more agile work culture. I also like the collaboration with teams across different departments, as I help them to embrace change and stay competitive. The everyday challenge of problem-solving, along with the continuous learning, also keeps me motivated.

Implementing new technologies reinforced my passion for driving meaningful change

One of my biggest achievements has been successfully leading a major digital transformation. Its effect was to streamline operations, improve efficiency and enhance overall business performance. Implementing these new technologies and strategies led to more efficient workflows and encouraged a culture of innovation within the organisation, which was incredibly rewarding. It reinforced my passion for driving meaningful change and highlighted the importance of adaptability in today’s business environment.

If I had law-making powers, I would introduce strict policies to promote meritocracy and eliminate nepotism in both the public and private sectors. This law would ensure that hiring, promotions and business opportunities were based on skills, experience and performance rather than personal connections. I would also have stronger regulations supporting digital transformation in businesses. These would make it easier for companies to adopt new technologies, streamline processes and compete in the global market.

If I weren’t a finance professional, I would have been interested in a career in technology and digital transformation. The ever-changing tech landscape, problem-solving aspect and business innovations fascinate me.

When I am not at work, I enjoy reading about business trends and technology, as I like to stay updated. I love travelling, going out to find new cultures and perspectives to explore. I also like sport and fitness activities, which help me stay active and maintain a balanced lifestyle. By playing a sport, going to the gym or simply taking a walk, I find I am refreshed and energised.
