ACCA Hong Kong’s annual Community Day, a major finance and charity event in the Special Administrative Region, drew crowds to Chater Road’s Sunday Pedestrian Precinct earlier this month.
The theme of this year’s event was ‘75 Years in Hong Kong: a relay of love for a better future’, and showcased how ACCA brings together the local accounting community while continuing to advance public welfare, foster social harmony and contribute to prosperity and sustainable development.
Innovating and enriching
The event attracted participants from accountancy firms, multinational companies, local organisations and institutions, culminating in the legendary rickshaw race, this year won by Team EY Tax.
‘The ACCA Community Day combines professional expertise with community service’
Guest of honour was Paul Chan, Financial Secretary of the HKSAR government, who founded the event 28 years ago during his tenure as ACCA Hong Kong chairman. ‘I appreciate ACCA Hong Kong’s commitment to organising this meaningful event and continuous efforts to innovate and enrich its content,’ he said at the opening ceremony. He added that Community Day is distinguished by three key characteristics: encouraging family participation; supporting smaller social welfare organisations; and highlighting the importance of teamwork.
Corporate sponsors
A wide range of companies, organisations and institutions generously supported ACCA Hong Kong’s Community Day.
Corporate sponsors this year were:
- Chartwell Capital
- FWD Group
- HK Asia Network Security Technology
- Tencent Charity Foundation
- VenusTech
Chan added that ACCA’s input into the Hong Kong government’s financial policymaking is greatly valued. ‘With the Budget consultation now under way, ACCA continues to demonstrate its accounting expertise and social responsibility, actively contributing valuable recommendations and insights for the government’s policy address and Budget,’ he said.
This year’s beneficiary organisations are the Evangelical Free Church of China – Lok Yan Learning Centre, Healthy Hong Kong and Hong Kong New Arrivals Services Foundation.
‘The ACCA Community Day is one of our flagship events that combines professional expertise with community service,’ said Stanley Ho, chairman of ACCA Hong Kong. He added that since its launch in 1997, over HK$24m in donations have been raised.
