March saw two notable celebrations in communities across Ireland and beyond. The first was International Women’s Day, and AB has a number of articles this month looking at the achievements of women in the business world. Ireland’s success in boosting female board membership puts the country ahead in achieving EU targets, while women are also embracing non-executive director roles.
Our main interview is with Ann Prendergast FCCA, head of EMEA operations at State Street Global Advisors, who firmly believes diversity is key to driving business performance, describing it as something to be constantly vigilant about.
It’s a theme picked up by our columnist Ian Guider in his analysis of whether the chill winds now blowing through corporate America’s diversity, equity and inclusion programmes will see similar initiatives frozen out over here. He argues the hard-nosed business case for DEI is as solid as ever.
The second big event of the month was St Patrick’s Day. AB marked the occasion with a top 10 of Irish people who’ve made notable contributions to the world of numbers, business and finance, starting with a sixth-century monk and concluding with the Collison brothers and their unicorn fintech Stripe.
Ireland’s heritage is big business, but the country’s wide range of music, cultural and sporting events and festivals is under threat from rising costs and increased regulation. AB analyses how changes in taxation and legislation could give the ‘experience economy’ the shot in the arm it needs.
Elsewhere, we have a round-up of regulatory and legislative developments, and an insight into preparing corporate valuations. We also have an article on the role of ACCA member panels and the panel member experience.
And if all this leaves you feeling spoilt for choice, check out our article on how to beat procrastination.
