I started off my career after graduating from Temasek Polytechnic in Singapore. While there, I set a clear goal to become a qualified accountant and to obtain my ACCA qualification while working so that I could see how the knowledge applies directly at work. Since then, I’ve always been in the audit line.

I’m currently an audit partner at KLP; I joined as an audit senior and was given the opportunity to grow. What’s interesting about auditing is you get to work with and provide varied advice to different clients. Another key attraction is KLP’s dedication to finding innovative ways to make the audit process more efficient; for example, we have our own robotic process automation (RPA) team and online learning management system.

Keeping up with rapid technological advancements is crucial

The main challenges facing audit in Singapore are technology and innovation. Therefore, keeping up with rapid technological advancements is crucial. Auditors must adapt to new software tools and processes to remain efficient and effective. This is exciting as I’m working closely with our RPA team to develop a bot to improve the efficiency of our audits. It’s definitely a sense of achievement when the bot works well and boosts efficiency.

Being part of the ACCA community gives me access to a vast network of professionals. This can be incredibly valuable for career growth, as it provides opportunities for networking, mentorship and professional development. In fact, with the ACCA qualification, I’ve progressed swiftly in my career and in pursuing my passion to become an audit partner.

Achieving the ACCA qualification while balancing my career with family is no small feat

Achieving the ACCA qualification while balancing my career with family responsibilities is no small feat. It takes a lot of dedication, hard work and resilience to manage both successfully, especially at a young age. Receiving my ACCA qualification was my proudest moment; it’s a tough but prestigious qualification.

Lim Yeong Seng, KLP’s managing partner, has given me a lot of opportunities, including a leadership role in growing the firm and guiding the team. Outside of business, I hope to travel more with my husband to experience new cultures and places around the world; this was one of our goals when we decided to start our family at a young age.

Most of my spare time is dedicated to my family: my husband, kids and parents. I enjoy spending time with them watching movies, shopping and having family meals. Time spent with them is precious and they have been my pillar of strength.

If I weren’t an accountant, I might have been a childcare teacher, as the kids bring me so much joy. I love to watch them learn and grow each day.
