I joined Resorts World Sentosa (RWS), Singapore’s first integrated resort, as a logistics assistant while I was a polytechnic student. With the support of my supervisor, I was given the opportunity to move into a full-time role as a finance executive. I grew in the role while studying part time for my ACCA qualification.

My time at Genting Singapore, which owns and operates RWS, has been an incredible growth journey, thanks to the company’s emphasis on cross-functional development. I started in accounts payable, where I honed my attention to detail and built strong vendor relationships. From there, I moved into general ledger, sharpening my technical accounting expertise. A shift to treasury gave me valuable experience in cashflow management and risk analysis. Now, in project management, I’m combining all these financial insights to drive strategic initiatives, particularly in supporting the finance system migration.

The ever-evolving tourism landscape presents fascinating challenges and opportunities

The biggest challenge – and reward – has been applying my financial expertise to each new role, learning to adapt and grow with each step. What I value most is how Genting Singapore encourages this vertical mobility; it allows me to understand the business holistically while developing both technical and leadership skills at the same time.

The ever-evolving tourism landscape presents fascinating challenges and opportunities. Against this backdrop, Genting Singapore is strategically transforming RWS through a multi-year revitalisation to elevate it into a premium lifestyle and tourism destination. Tourists are seeking personalised, immersive experiences over traditional sightseeing, which requires agile financial planning to fund innovation while maintaining profitability. With digital transformation, from artificial intelligence-powered guest services to blockchain payments, we’re seeing how technology is redefining operational models.

RWS is an early champion of sustainable destination building, and is actively pursuing carbon neutrality by 2030. Finance contributes to this by balancing investments in sustainability initiatives such as decarbonisation and energy-efficiency innovations with business viability.

My work in leveraging analytics has taught me how empowering data fluency can be

The ACCA qualification has been instrumental in shaping my career, equipping me with both the technical expertise and strategic mindset to thrive across diverse roles. Its rigorous curriculum provided me with a strong foundation in financial principles, risk management and business strategy, skills I’ve directly applied when transitioning from accounting to treasury and now project management. Beyond technical knowledge, the ACCA network has been an invaluable support system, fostering collaboration, shared learning and job opportunities. What sets ACCA apart is how it prepares you for real-world adaptability; this versatility has empowered me to take on new challenges confidently and contribute meaningfully to Genting Singapore’s business goals.

I’m passionate about democratising financial literacy. My work in leveraging analytics for personal investing has taught me how empowering data fluency and financial knowledge can be. In the long term, I envision blending these interests and becoming an enabler for anyone keen to become more financially savvy. Lately, I’ve been immersed in building systematic trading models with the help of AI tools, from ideation to deployment. The process of optimising algorithms and back testing them keeps me intellectually charged.

If I weren’t an accountant, I’d probably be an equity analyst – diving deep into financial statements and market trends to uncover business insights. It’s not too far from what I do now, just with a different lens.
