My interest in finance led me to a role in transaction advisory. I started my career at Deloitte, working in M&A consulting. Later, I moved into the corporate sector, gaining valuable experience and completing my ACCA qualification, which was an important milestone for me. It was challenging but it gave me the confidence to progress in my career. I realised that consulting suited me best, as I enjoy its variety, so I returned to Deloitte. However, I recently joined a smaller consultancy, where I can continue to grow professionally.
I have stepped out of my comfort zone as I am introverted by nature, so roles that required me to take the lead did not come naturally. I had to push myself, but then realised that with preparation and practice, these opportunities could be very rewarding. Indeed, I even started to enjoy taking the initiative. With each new role, I’ve had to adapt to new people and cultures, but these experiences helped me to grow.
Having moved to Germany at 11, I know how important education and equal opportunities are
One of Germany’s biggest challenges – but also opportunities – is integration. Having moved to Germany at 11, I know how important education and equal opportunities are. I believe strength lies in diversity; many of my colleagues and friends come from different cultural backgrounds, and I find that every encounter with a new perspective is enriching. While integration is not always easy, it offers immense potential for growth for individuals, businesses and wider society.
The best thing about my job is the combination of logic, structure and variety. No two days are ever the same, which makes the work dynamic and interesting. I enjoy solving complex problems, breaking them down and then finding practical solutions. Teamwork is also very important to me, and the most rewarding moments come when collaboration leads to a solution that no-one could have achieved alone.
This is my favourite quote: ‘Every challenge is a chance to grow.’ It reflects both my personal and professional journey, from adapting to new environments to taking on demanding projects. I see challenges as opportunities to learn, build resilience and discover new strengths – a mindset that has guided me throughout my career.
Professional scepticism and ethical judgment remain essential
Artificial intelligence (AI) is an important tool that can support our work, but it will never replace human judgment. Its greatest value lies in efficiency, processing large amounts of data and highlighting patterns that would otherwise take much longer to identify. However, professional scepticism and ethical judgment remain essential, especially in fields such as accounting and consulting. The key is to stay informed, invest in developing AI skills and embrace the opportunities that AI offers, but always as a complement to people, not a replacement.
If I had law-making powers, I would prioritise fairness and equality. Everyone should have the opportunity to determine their own future, regardless of their background. This would include access to opportunities such as education, which is a key enabler. I would also protect the vulnerable, and the environment, by ensuring that resources are used sustainably. These are fundamental values that should guide how decisions are made.
If I had not become an accountant, I could see myself running a small bakery or patisserie. I enjoy working with my hands and like the creativity needed to produce something tangible from a variety of ingredients.
Outside of work, I like to spend my time in ways that give me balance. Yoga has been a part of my life for many years as it helps me to stay grounded. I also enjoy reading, baking and spending time with my cat Eddy.
