I currently serve as the chief strategy officer of an education technology startup. The role represents a deliberate shift, from being someone who builds financial narratives and plans to someone who defines the battlefield itself. I now operate at the frontline of decision-making, where I am responsible for setting direction, prioritising resources, and ensuring that the organisation moves with both clarity and efficiency despite constraints. I love the sense of ownership and contribution. Building something in the edtech space is particularly fulfilling, as it directly contributes to shaping the next generation.
There is a saying in Vietnam: ‘Only when basic needs are met can higher values be pursued.’ If strategy is the backbone of an organisation, then finance is the bloodstream that sustains it. It flows through every function, and any disruption, no matter how small, can weaken the entire system. A great finance professional understands this rhythm. They not only fuel growth by enabling smart investments but also applying discipline by preventing inefficient spending. In that sense, finance is both an enabler and a guardian of long-term value.
I began my career through an EY scholarship while at university, quite serendipitously, as I hadn’t even been aware of the programme until a close friend registered on my behalf. This is also when I was first introduced to ACCA, with EY Vietnam sponsoring my journey to qualification.
For me, the most meaningful accomplishment is the continuous pursuit of growth
Over the following four years, I was immersed in a highly disciplined, world-class professional environment. The rigour, standards and exposure I gained during that time fundamentally shaped who I am today, instilling in me a sense of resilience and consistency – qualities that later enabled me to transition confidently across functions.
Interestingly, I don’t define my greatest achievement by any single successful project, whether it be launching initiatives, leading restructurings or securing investments. For me, the most meaningful accomplishment is the continuous pursuit of growth. The commitment to evolving, to seeking new experiences and to stepping outside of my comfort zone has been the driving force behind everything I do.
ACCA has been an incredibly valuable part of my journey. It serves as a powerful credential, a form of professional trust that often precedes personal introduction. It opens doors and creates immediate credibility. Beyond the qualification itself, the ACCA network is truly remarkable. There is an unspoken connection among members, a shared identity that fosters trust, collaboration and mutual support. The sense of community and the willingness to help one another is something I deeply appreciate and remain grateful for.
I dedicate most of my spare time to my family. At this stage of life, achieving a perfect work-life balance is challenging, but I strive to make the moments I do have truly meaningful. Spending time with my child, laughing, playing and being fully present, is the most effective way for me to recharge. Those moments give me the energy and clarity to step into a new day and a new week with renewed focus.
Looking ahead, I see myself fully dedicating my efforts to advising businesses, supporting them through complex decisions and transformations. That is the path I’m intentionally building towards, and every step in my journey today is part of preparing for that future.
