After graduating from Monash University Malaysia, I decided to challenge myself by moving to Singapore. While studying, I had interned at Sunway Group and EY Malaysia, which proved pivotal milestones and were the catalyst for my career path. I joined EY Singapore as an audit associate, and have since taken on diverse engagements and leadership responsibilities.
Today, I really enjoy collaborating with diverse teams, engaging with clients and building relationships across different backgrounds. Every engagement brings new issues to solve, and that continuous exposure deepens my understanding of businesses and strengthens my ability to lead and mentor others.
Our interconnected markets require adaptability and cultural awareness
Singapore is at the forefront of a rapidly evolving regional landscape. With automation handling routine tasks, auditors today are expected to interpret data, extract insights and apply deeper analytical judgment. Organisations are prioritising transparency and accountability, creating opportunities for assurance professionals to shape the future of responsible business. South-East Asia’s interconnected markets require adaptability, cultural awareness and the ability to operate seamlessly across borders. Such trends continuously stretch our capabilities and create space for innovation, which is exciting for the profession.
ACCA has been instrumental to my professional growth. It has not just provided a rigorous technical foundation but has also helped me stand out, especially when competing for new audit proposals or cross-border engagements. One of my proudest early milestones was being recognised as the second top ACCA affiliate in Singapore, along with multiple top placings in ACCA papers. Equally meaningful is stepping into leadership roles early in my career, coaching younger team members, contributing to audit quality and building strong working relationships with clients. I have found that growth is both personal and collective.
I was taught perseverance and the importance of pushing boundaries
My parents have been my greatest inspiration. Growing up, conversations at home often revolved around business and economics, which naturally nurtured my interest in financial management and business operations. My parents’ positivity and resilience, especially during difficult times, taught me perseverance and the importance of pushing boundaries. I’m also grateful for the mentors and leaders at EY who have invested in my development, challenged me to step outside my comfort zone, and modelled the importance of continuous learning.
I’m an avid sports enthusiast. I enjoy playing football and badminton and often participate in team competitions to stay active. Sports keep me grounded and allow me to build bonds with people from diverse backgrounds. I also enjoy exploring spicy cuisine, from Sichuan mala to Thai tom yum, and spending time with family and friends.
If I weren’t an accountant, I’d likely be involved in teaching or mentoring. I enjoy breaking down complex concepts, helping others succeed and facilitating meaningful conversations. Those are skills that naturally translate into education and coaching.
