ACCA members in Germany had the opportunity to attend the recent 91st seminar of the Accountants Group in Germany (AGiG), which addressed a broad range of topics reflecting the changing landscape of the profession.
Fabian Spielberger, founder of Mydealz and CEO of Atolls Communities, opened the seminar with a session on ‘From Student Startup to E-Commerce Success’, outlining the key stages in building and scaling a digital business.
In his talk ‘Will AI Replace Accountants? Hype versus Reality’, ACCA’s head of technology research Alistair Brisbourne (pictured, above) explored the impact of artificial intelligence on the profession. He offered a measured view on where automation adds value and where professional judgment remains essential.
Impact
Tatiana Hargašová, an ACCA member at KPMG, then turned the focus to communication skills with ‘Presenting with Impact’. She delivered a highly practical and engaging session that resonated strongly with the audience, particularly in highlighting how finance professionals can communicate complex ideas more clearly and confidently.
It is a forum for reflecting on professional challenges
The final session, delivered by Marie Döscher of AlixPartners, on ‘Fraud: Real-Life Experiences’, drew on practical examples to illustrate current risks and the importance of strong controls.
As is customary for AGiG seminars, the event was preceded by an informal dinner the evening before, giving participants an opportunity to reconnect and develop their network in a more relaxed setting.
The seminar itself provided a forum for professional exchange and reflection on the challenges facing the finance profession. With a focus on practical insight and open discussion, the Frankfurt event contributed to ongoing development and dialogue within the accountancy community in Germany.
