After graduating from the University of Economics of Ho Chi Minh City with a bachelor’s degree in finance and banking, I started my professional career as an intern in tax services with PwC Vietnam. After nearly seven years with PwC, I left as a tax manager to gain industry experience. After nearly four years, I’m back in consultancy with Alvarez & Marsal as a senior tax manager, delivering professional services to a wide range of clients.

I’m motivated by the new – new cases, new scenarios, new clients – allowing me to continuously learn and improve technical and practical knowledge and experience. I love working from both numerical and linguistic perspectives; finance in general and tax in particular inspire me and give me energy to work every day.

Economic globalisation and harmonisation have provided a lot of learning opportunities. The chance to work with international standards and/or practices that support both technical and practical knowledge and experience acquisition from several countries, especially developed ones, is invaluable. Global rules, practices and systems are to be adhered to, creating challenges for companies to stay current with globally comprehensive requirements. I, as a professional, need to continuously develop to keep up with new requirements from clients.

As a lifelong learner, every day is a new achievement for me

ACCA has provided me with not just a wide range of technical knowledge but skills in analytical and critical thinking. ACCA has also provided a professional network, which is supportive and helpful in sharing contemporary technical, practical and professional knowledge and experience – critical for a professional adviser. As a lifelong learner, every day is a new achievement for me; I have chances to continuously improve. In this context, the ACCA qualification is one of my best achievements so far.

My co-workers and the finance and accountancy community have inspired me along this career path. Together we are building a stronger business framework for Vietnam, which is critical for the country to effectively and efficiently harmonise with the global economy. My ambition is to get to a top level in a professional workplace, such as a senior adviser, strongly contributing to the successful economic and business transformation in Vietnam.

In my free time, I love spending time with my beloved family, especially two growing kids, and watching football. In fact, if I weren’t an accountant, I’d probably try to be a football player; I’m a crazy Liverpool fan.
