NTR is a leading investor in renewable energy, focused on Europe. We deliver a risk-adjusted return on behalf of our investment partners through the acquisition, construction and long-term management of sustainable infrastructure assets. Our investment partners include NTR, Legal & General Capital, Strathclyde Pension Fund and The Ireland Strategic Investment Fund.

We manage 195 MW in assets split between construction and operations, across Ireland and the UK, managed through a €250m investment fund. We are in the process of raising a second fund that will double our investment capacity and enable entry into new markets and renewable energy technologies such as solar photovoltaic. We have a great team based in Dublin with deep industry experience that has enabled our success.

What I particularly enjoy is bringing together experience in project finance, financial control and project development

My current role is essentially divided into two parts. Firstly, the identification and acquisition of renewable energy projects across our markets, which involves a lot of financial modelling, and secondly, the procurement and project financing of acquired assets.

I began my career in 2003 on the AIB Capital Markets’ graduate development programme, where I also completed my ACCA examinations. I owe a valuable aspect of my experience to six years working in the development of greenfield wind and solar photovoltaic projects throughout Europe. What I particularly enjoy is bringing together experience in project finance, financial control and project development to NTR’s investment management strategy.

Regulators and energy companies are working on a number of market changes under the Integrated Single Electricity Market project. This will further integrate the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland markets and improve trading with neighbouring countries. Due to go live in mid-2018, the project will help stimulate future energy investment and deliver cost reductions.

As a member of ACCA Ireland’s Business Leaders’ Forum, I find organising our breakfast briefings particularly rewarding. Our speakers come from different industries and give great up-to-date insight. We recently welcomed Michael O’Leary, CEO of Ryanair, and in November will be joined by Pat McCann, CEO of Dalata.

The most important lessons I have learned are to work hard and focus on delivering what you set out to achieve. I have been fortunate to learn from industry leaders. This journey has left me with countless business lessons that I feel privileged to have learned first-hand.
