My life and career choices were mostly influenced by my parents. My mother has always been a role model for me. She’s very entrepreneurial and motivated professionally but at the same time a supportive and affectionate parent. Somehow, she managed to balance between those two roles.
My father was the one who suggested that studying at the Warsaw School of Economics could be right for me. He also motivated me to take part in a programme organised by the university, ACCA and EY. Thanks to that, after graduating not only had I passed all the ACCA exams but also had my first job at EY as an auditor guaranteed.
After a few years in audit, I knew I wanted to get involved in a corporate role. I wanted to get to know a particular organisation thoroughly as opposed to working with the wide variety of companies I cooperated with while at EY.
That is when I decided to start my adventure with Groupon, a dynamic e-commerce business in Poland. After my daughter was born, which was already a revolution in my life to start with, I also decided to change my role and business to the TV industry, so I started to work for a 21st Century Fox subsidiary.
This change turned out to be a phenomenal experience, especially because two weeks after I joined, The Walt Disney Company announced its intention to take over 21st Century Fox. Participation in the integration process of those two media giants has been a priceless experience.
If I had law-making powers, I would certainly make life easier and less tax burdened for entrepreneurs. The tax and legal environment in Poland is getting more and more complex each year. I strongly believe that teaching a man to fish is far more beneficial than social support granted by the state.
I deeply believe that women who decide to have both children and career are more organised, motivated and efficient but at the same time far more empathetic
Covid-19 impacted my office and my role heavily. I’ve been working from home since March 2020. As an extrovert who loves teamwork, this time has been challenging.
What I enjoy most about my job is working with my amazing team, and the fact that I can provide added value to the business. This is what a finance role should be all about.
My biggest achievement so far is being a working mum. I had the good example of my own mother. I deeply believe that women who decide to have both children and career are more organised, motivated and efficient but at the same time far more empathetic and people oriented, so perfect material for managers and employees.
If I didn’t work as a finance professional, I think I would go for English philology and work as a certified translator. The other option could be psychology and working as a coach.
I love to travel, watch movies and to cook, which is a talent I discovered thanks to Covid-19.
