I decided to explore accounting after a presentation by a Big Four firm at my university, in Baku, Azerbaijan, where I was a student of international economics. I spent over six years auditing in Azerbaijan and the Netherlands, working in and then managing multinational teams across various industries, which prepared me well for the next chapter in my career.
Stepping out of my comfort zone and joining a completely new firm was a risk for me but I am very happy I did it
I was offered a role in the finance function of WeTransfer. It was great for me as I always wanted to explore ‘the other side of the table’. Stepping out of my comfort zone and joining a completely new firm was a risk for me but I am very happy I did it. I have enjoyed working with my colleagues, and I’ve learned, developed and been part of the transformation of the company, which provides productivity tools for creative professionals.
The euro area is dealing with record-high inflation numbers, primarily caused by rising energy prices as a result of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. Uncertainty surrounding the situation has affected many companies across various industries, and the tech sector is no exception.
One of the major issues that businesses face is how to achieve profitable growth and sustain a stable cost base, while also ensuring employee wellbeing and stakeholder satisfaction. Companies must consider investing in research and development, to keep up with their competitors and respond to their customers’ needs. However, the efficient allocation of resources under current circumstances is a considerable challenge for decision-makers.
If I could make a law, I would support the creation of a better environment in which to live, for people of all cultural and religious backgrounds, genders, races and professions. As a strong proponent of ESG (environmental, social and governance) approaches, I am happy to see investors taking these initiatives and creating growth that is positive for society and the environment. Companies with good ESG frameworks will also become more attractive places to work.

One of my biggest achievements was becoming an ACCA member. I still remember the rainy day in December 2017 when I received my final exam results. I was happy and incredibly proud of myself as I finished this journey of over three years. A short time after this I moved to the Netherlands and started a new chapter in my life and career as a qualified professional accountant.
If I was not working in finance, I would become either a football commentator or a chef. I know the two are not related, but I enjoy both cooking and watching football!
Outside of work, I like to spend my time with my friends. I also enjoy cooking together with my wife, reading, and playing video games. I also like to take very long walks.
