With the countdown to the Fifa World Cup in November getting ever louder, we kick off with an AB podcast on football finance. In it, Kieran Maguire, football finance lecturer at the University of Liverpool, looks at what’s at stake for the tournament’s organisers, as well as for football clubs and investors more broadly.

This month, we also talk to Ketha Auguste, CFO at Bank of Saint Lucia. When she first joined, she didn’t intend to stay but, as you’ll see, she has earned her place at the bank’s top table.

We also hear from Gabriela Figueiredo Dias, the Portuguese chair of the International Ethics Standards Board for Accountants, on how she plans to restore faith in the accountancy profession; consistency in the application of ethical standards will be key to this plan.

And finally, experts are urging the European Financial Reporting Advisory Group to slow down its development of new sustainability standards. It is feared that the speed of its consultations on exposure drafts could prove, well, unsustainable.
