This month, we meet two members whose career paths have taken them in very different directions. Our main interview is with Mohsin Jalali FCCA, CFO of Lafana, the family office of the Abunayyan family. A former auditor turned financial controller, he explains why he jumped at the chance to get involved in strategy at the Saudi Arabian investment company.

Our second interview is with Omer Zaheer Meer FCCA, a tax specialist and managing partner at Millennium Law & Corporate Company (MLCC) in Lahore, Pakistan. A veteran of ACCA’s Global Tax Forum, he is working hard to build trust between taxpayers and authorities, which he believes is the key to raising compliance in the South Asian country.

We also have an article on efforts to introduce strict anti-money laundering measures in UAE, which will benefit the emirates’ status as the financial hub of the Middle East and also serve as a reminder to professional accountants of the contribution they make in the fight to curb illicit funds.

Meanwhile, a new report from ACCA brings the good news that finance professionals are the most trusted professionals for tax advice – valued above lawyers, politicians and tax authorities. Read our article to find out more.

Finally, don’t forget to sign up for our virtual Accounting for the Future conference, to earn up to 15 free CPD units. This year’s event runs from 29 November to 1 December.
