Financial services audit is a significant part of Grant Thornton’s audit and assurance practice. The team focuses on all sectors within the financial world and is split across the banking, asset management, securitisations, insurance and aviation finance pillars. Demand for our services has seen tremendous growth over the last few years, and we have more than 300 dedicated people working in the team.

I lead the aviation finance audit team and am responsible for providing audit and assurance services to some of the largest global aviation finance companies. I specialise in assisting and advising clients on complex accounting issues relating to the acquisition and leasing of aircrafts and related assets.

Believe in your capabilities and give your best and success will follow

I am also the lead audit partner to a large portfolio of structured finance and capital market entities covering a broad spectrum of investments. These include collateralised loan and debt obligations, non-performing loans, mortgage-backed securities, direct/property lending and synthetic credit deals.

In 2023, my priority is to ensure that we maintain our position as a top audit service provider in the financial services sector in Ireland. We will do this through continuing the strong growth of our client base and business. Key to our success is the client-centric approach we take towards our audits. We provide a best-in-class service that’s tailored to our client’s needs and the nature of their business. This practice has been our unique selling point, and I want to ensure we don’t lose our culture and personal approach as we grow further.

We strive to create an environment where every employee feels valued and a part of the firm

Having the right team and resources to continue providing a quality service to our clients is critical to our planned growth strategy. Across the globe, highly skilled accountants and auditors are in demand, and the competition to attract and retain experienced staff is a key challenge that all audit firms are facing. At Grant Thornton, we have a diverse and multicultural workforce, and we strive to create an environment where every employee feels valued and a part of the firm. By retaining our unique culture, we are confident that we will continue to attract the best people who share our core values – collaborative, passionate, integrity, fun and, most importantly, grounded.

The most important business lesson I have learned in my career is that hard work always pays off. Believe in your capabilities and give your best to whatever task you are doing or role you are in and success will follow. When success comes, it’s also important to remain grounded with regards to your personal and organisational achievements. At the same time, you should always stay hungry for more.
