As a technology consultant at Deloitte, I perform independent assessments to ensure that banks are complying with regulatory requirements. This allows me to understand more about their functions, management procedures and technology.

The most challenging aspect of my work is gaining the acceptance of banks’ senior management teams when I discuss what I have found and next steps. I make sure I distill my findings into clear and concise messages.

As technology is developing rapidly, trends change frequently. I have to stay agile and adaptable to keep up with the changes, continuously learning and polishing my skills.

It is a rewarding experience to develop new skills and grow

I began studying accounting at high school. I chose it because it is a stable and growing profession, which plays a critical role in providing information about the financial health of a company and allows stakeholders to make informed decisions. I went on to study accounting at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology.

In 2022, I achieved the top score in Hong Kong for the Strategic Business Leader paper. I was also among the top ten affiliates with the highest total average marks in ACCA’s Strategic Professional exams. I am really proud of those achievements. I started my ACCA journey while working in technology risk consulting at EY, which I joined in 2019. I moved to Deloitte at the end of 2022.

The accounting profession will increasingly rely on technologies such as artificial intelligence and machine learning to perform repetitive tasks. At the same time, there will be a high demand for professionals with strong soft skills like communication, leadership and critical thinking to provide strategic value to clients.

An accounting professional should always step out of their comfort zone and take on new challenges. We are often afraid of failing and taking risks but it is a rewarding experience to develop new skills and grow, helping you to become more competitive and adaptable.

Outside work, I enjoy outdoor activities such as kayaking and hiking; I love exploring the scenery of Hong Kong’s remote islands. It helps me to release the pressure from my daily work.
