As the senior manager in a small international office, I oversee the accounting, audit and tax services arranged for our clients. I align their needs and plans with financial reporting and tax filing obligations. The yearly target is to ensure the good standing of our clients’ companies by successfully providing tailor-made financial services and to expand our portfolio by attracting more businesses.

I love the opportunity offered to manage my own portfolio of companies. The main challenge is to organise and deliver prompt services to the whole spectrum of the portfolio in time for annual reporting deadlines.

The employment opportunity to migrate to Hong Kong from Cyprus is what brought me here. But there are many reasons for me to stay. The business environment in Hong Kong is dynamic and fast-paced, fit for individuals searching for growth opportunities and network expansion.

In the future, the role of the accountant could be key for all business organisations

I was introduced to accounting during high school and loved it from the very first lesson. The combination of fully comprehending and excelling gave me the motivation to continue studying and practising throughout the years, building my career along the way.

The accounting profession will always have an important function in business. In the future, the role of the accountant could be key for all business organisations in planning strategies, the daily supervision of financial operations, conducting business, as well as ethical considerations.

The main challenge that lies ahead for our profession is keeping up with the continuous development of financial transactions. Staying up to date with new financial technologies and ideas – especially the ways in which business is conducted from a financial reporting perspective, and the accounting standards amended or created along the way – can help accountants adjust more easily. With the help of emerging tools, we can also stay alert and relevant in a fast-paced environment.

To my peers, I would say: don’t stop now! Continue putting in the effort and consistency required to develop yourself. Identify and apply your own incentives for your career goals so you can reach higher levels and achieve your dreams.

Outside of work, sport – mainly football – is my passion. I love to read and, of course, hang out and explore with friends. In Hong Kong, I have also discovered a love for hiking, which offers an opportunity to escape the bustling city and discover its beautiful nature.
