ACCA’s Council met on 12 November 2024 to consider a number of matters prior to the ACCA annual general meeting, including reports from the chief executive and Council Board, workshop discussions, the annual reports from the Council Board, Regulatory Board and standing committees, and the standing orders for the following year.
The annual Council meeting took place on 14 November 2024 immediately following ACCA’s 119th AGM. At the annual Council meeting, Council elected ACCA’s officers for the coming year. ACCA’s new president is Ayla Majid. She will be supported by Melanie Proffitt (deputy president) and Datuk Zaiton Mohd Hassan (vice president).
Council welcomed five new members, whose election was declared at the AGM: Stephen Doyle, Urooj Farhat Khan, Qinxue Mei, Sallahuddin (Den) Surfraz and Nguyen Vu Duc.
Council also welcomed the six re-elected members of Council: Victoria Ajayi, Cristina Gutu, Dato’ Lock Peng Kuan, Philip Maher, Dinusha Weerawardane and Ernest Wong.
For 2024–25, Council will be comprised of 45 members – 26 women and 19 men from 17 countries.
The annual Council meeting included a presentation from the president of the International Federation of Accountants (IFAC), Jean Bouquot, followed by strategy workshop discussions.
Council also took a number of decisions at its annual meeting, including:
- electing three Council members to serve on the Nominating and Governance Committee in 2024–25
- adopting Council’s standing orders for 2024–25 in accordance with the bye-laws
- approving the Council regulations for 2025
- agreeing the Council work plan and objectives for the year ahead.
